High-fat foods or children's brain development increase the risk of mental illness

The latest issue of the British "Molecular Psychiatry" published an article saying that high-fat foods can affect the child's brain development and increase the risk of mental illness such as depression and dementia.

Swiss and French researchers fed a group of mice with high-fat and high-sugar foods. After 4 weeks of continuous feeding, the mouse's brain became slower and the change was obvious and long-lasting. In addition, the brain damage of young rats is more severe than that of adult rats.

After testing, the researchers found that the level of the silkworm protein in the mouse brain was reduced. This protein is responsible for regulating the synapses of neurons, allowing them to change strengths as needed, helping to connect neurons. Low levels of silk fibroin limit the neuronal synaptic plasticity, reduce the overall cognitive level, and increase the risk of suffering from mental illness. Moreover, low levels of silk fibroin are one of the markers of high risk of Alzheimer's disease.

The UK's "Daily Mail" quoted one of the researchers on the 15th as the U.S. employee of Zurich's U.S. Federal University of Technology, Urs Meyer, reporting that these changes are more derived from high-fat foods. Food pairs not only cause obesity but also affect the brain.
